The FS31 is yet another entry in the line of user-friendly, compact camcorders. This one is distinguished by a 37x optical zoom lens (yes, 37x)... combine that with Canon's new Advanced Zoom technology, and the lens is capable of up to 41X magnification. Recording is done via 16GB of built-in space, along with removable SD cards, so you've always got a back-up plan. Quick Start recording, a widescreen LCD, various Scene recording modes, and Dynamic Image Stabilization all keep the FS31 in line with most of Canon's other new offerings. True 16:9 widescreen recording via the DIGIC DV II processor gives you extra pixels for really great image quality. It doesn't have the Smart Auto mode, which is meant to make adjusting your settings ridiculously easy, but it does have regular old Auto, which we always thought was easy enough to use anyhow. It also features Quick Start, Pre-Record, Quick Charge, and Dual Shot recording.
