Canon FS400
Editor's Review
Standard-def is hardly glamorous, but folks without HDTVs or computers that can handle HD video might as well stick with a low-cost standard-def model. The Canon FS400 offers typical standard-def specs for this day and age, like a super-long zoom (37x optical), optical image stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD, and 8GB flash memory. There are more compelling standard-def camcorder out there this year, but Canon is typically reliable, so it's worth a look. The FS400 has no built-in memory, and records only to SD/SDHC cards; also check out the FS40, which comes with 8GB built-in memory and is otherwise identical.
