I own and am new to using the zr960. I am trying to load video footage from it into my mac but the firewire connection doesn't seem to pick it up-I don't get a standard "new device detected" message or anything at all. Would I want to get some type of adapter or software? Thanks.

I`m on a verge of buying this camcorder diy-camera-rigs.blogspot.co... says it`s an updated model of HV 20. Any suggestion if you have already used it specially about Mini DV tape recording vs other recording media.

Not really. The best you can really do is play with the programmed settings - Easy, Program, TV, Portrait, Sports, Night, Snow, Beach, Sunset,Spotlight, Fireworks

Well, the main pro of the ZR930 is the larger CCD which gives you 1.07 MP, which is pretty large for a non HD miniDV camcorder. It also has a larger focal length, larger widescreen viewfinder, and on top of that, it's 4 oz. lighter!

Amazing how hard it was to deduce this information. I should have gone to the manufacturer first. Thank you for your help. I had ordered the 960 but figured it out and then ordered the 930. Thanks again.

I do media training and need an inexpensive camcorder that can handle an external mic and external speakers for playback. Does the Canon ZR 960 fill the bill or should I be looking elsewhere?

Yes, it has both a mic minijack and an audio minijack. But if you're teaching media training, shouldn't you be going HiDef? I mean, you' looking backwards now.

According to Canon USA, it'll be available in May 2009. As for price ... no word yet, but look for it around $300 or less, I'd expect.
As far as editing goes, you need your own video editing software. Recommend Adobe Premiere Elements, although your PC has Windows Movie Maker and your Mac has iMovie (which is perfect). No real restrictions other than you'll need to capture the software. I recommend WinDV.
