High-Def Mainstream Camcorders

Judging by the most-viewed camcorders on Camcorder HQ, if you're shopping for a camcorder these days, you're probably going to end up with a mainstream high-def camcorder. These traditional-looking camcorders usually shoot either 1080i or 1080p-resolution video, most commonly at 30 or 60fps (24fps is uncommon in this range). Zoom ranges hover around 10x, most functions are automated, and they usually have some "extras" thrown in. All of these camcorders record to SD or SDHC cards (as well as Memory Sticks, in the case of Sony camcorders), many come with some built-in flash memory, and a few even use bulky hard disks for storage. You won't get cinema quality shots out of these camcorders, but the video quality is notably better than you'll get from standard-def camcorders and most HD pocket camcorders as well.
